Tranexamic acid (TXA) injection is an antifibrinolytic agent used to prevent or reduce excessive bleeding by stabilizing blood clots.
Primary Uses:
The injection is primarily used in hospital or clinical settings for:
- Dental Procedures in Hemophiliacs: Preventing hemorrhage during and after tooth extractions.
- Trauma: Improving survival in patients with significant hemorrhage, especially when administered within three hours of injury.
- Surgery: Reducing blood loss in major procedures like cardiac surgery, total hip arthroplasty, and total knee replacement.
- Postpartum Hemorrhage: Managing severe bleeding after childbirth.
- Off-Label Uses: Treatment for conditions like hereditary angioedema, nosebleeds (epistaxis), and heavy periods (menorrhagia) when oral forms are not suitable.
